The Double-Minded Man Receives Nothing

False humility paralyzes faith. Many wear their doubt as a badge of honor, disguising it as wisdom, when the motive is to cloak their defiance. God detests their hypocritical posture of endless debate in the name of openness and inquiry. It is a tactic to refuse the plain commands of Scripture. He presents his word as self-authenticating and demands faith as the only rational outcome.

James states that the double-minded man receives nothing from God. Someone who doubts other people may seem cautious, but when he extends that same suspicion to God he stands condemned. Faith consists in steady confidence anchored in his word. Double-mindedness is not intellectual depth. It is paralysis and disobedience. God rebukes this state of mind as instability and spiritual immaturity, the very opposite of how faithless Christians want to appear. True humility submits to God’s counsel. The believer ends his inquiry in the certainty of revelation and conforms his mind to Christ. That is genuine humility.
